no batteries required...

In the post Christmas hangover I'm realising how much STUFF my kids have. And it all sings and makes beep-beep noise or simply buzzes when I walk by! Although my 3 year old is actually rotating through all the new toys and playing nicely with them all the mountain of things is overwhelming...

After the holidays we were having some craft time together and Mommy made her own crafts and made Lauren some little file folder games based on a reco from a momstown friend. I had no idea about this concept but I quickly learned about these low tech educational resources that you make -- yes, the parent cuts, pastes and creates little learning games which are stored in file folders for easy access when the child wants to sit and do a little matching or play with a felt board story.

Can you imagine? My child is amazed to match up felt colours to coloured cotton balls or to practise her buttoning skills. There's no noise, no plastic, no interactive sign-songs... just my child thinking and sitting and enjoying my simple (and easy!) handiwork. Makes me wonder about all those other busy & loud toys we have....

Inspired by the concept of simple educational resources, momstown has created a standard activity for every community - a parent education make & take night! Moms will gather together and cut, paste & colour in quiet mom only time and bring home simple activities for their kids. What a fun and productive evening!
Lauren will be thrilled to have some new activities to tote around in her Tinkerbell file folder. Much more thrilled than the latest talking walking plastic whatever... and Mommy will love the silence.
